I’ve been contemplating the deeper meaning of masks lately. I’m not necessarily referring to the masks that have made their way into our daily lives as a result of COVID 19. This article is not intended to be a political statement about wearing masks to protect ourselves from a pandemic. I’m speaking about the symbolic masks that we wear to hide the truth of who we are. We put on masks every day to fit into various groups and organizations where we feel pressured to conform to their values, behaviors, and beliefs. We continuously fear rejection if our views and opinions don’t match those around us, so we carry on hiding behind veils of inauthenticity. We are afraid to be seen.
Do you suffer from Imposter Syndrome?
Wearing a mask protects us from vulnerability. We fear that our “weaknesses” will be revealed in some way if we expose our true selves. But when we wear a mask, we resist our truth and attract realities that conflict with who we are.
Becoming authentic is a process to begin knowing ourselves. Learning to understand our personality traits, behaviors, values, beliefs, needs, goals, and motives. Having the courage to acknowledge our limitations and embrace our vulnerability.
How do we remove the masks to let our authenticity shine?
It begins with knowing thyself.
Most of us have forgotten who we are. Years of societal programming and wounding that begins early in childhood eventually causes us to lose touch with our true nature. We slowly accumulate layers of “psychological armor” around our bodies that not only serve to shield us from the outer world, but it keeps us from accessing the inner world and the light that lives deep within our hearts and minds.
BodyTalk® and Akashic Records readings are two techniques that help you access your authentic nature by restoring balance in your mind, body, and spirit. The methods also connect you to your soul’s perspective — which is your ultimate truth!!
